Rolls off the tongue so wonderfully - THISTLE - which is probably part of the reason for buying this THISTLE with no rhyme or reason........ All 2 and a half feet of it

2 1/2 feet?! WOW. For some reason this photograph gives the impression of it being much smaller! However, I like it all the much more knowing how large it is! What was its use?
